How to play SameGame

Remove groups of matching tiles until the board is empty. Each move changes which tiles touch, so the order matters.

Clear a connected group

Tap any tile in a group of at least two tiles of the same color. Connections run up, down, left and right. Diagonal neighbors do not connect. A group can bend around a corner.

Fern tiles have a leaf shape and the letter A. Iris tiles have a diamond and the letter B. The shapes and letters follow the same matching rules as the colors.

Down first, then left

After a group disappears, the tiles above it fall straight down. If a whole column becomes empty, every column to its right shifts left to close the space.

In this small example, clearing the A column brings both B tiles to the left. Clear that pair next to finish.

Every tile must go

You win only when no tiles remain. If tiles remain but no matching group has two or more tiles, the board is at a dead end. Use Undo to restore your last group, or Restart to return to the original board.

All starting boards can be cleared. A later choice may leave a position that cannot clear completely—even when it still has a removable group.

A useful first move

Look at isolated tiles before removing a large group. Clearing the tiles between two matching colors can bring them together. Leaving a single tile of a color will prevent a complete clear.

Show a move checks a full route from your current position and outlines its first group. If the position has no clearing route, it says so. If a search limit is reached, the result is unknown; it does not label the board impossible.

Daily, practice and controls

Daily uses the same 4×4 board for everyone on the same UTC date. Daily rotates through 24 original boards, repeating every 24 days. Practice lets you choose another board. Daily and practice progress are saved separately on this device. A saved daily stays open across midnight and reopening; Play today asks before replacing an unfinished board.

Tap or click a matching group. With a keyboard, use arrows to move, Enter or Space to clear, and Home or End to reach the first or last tile. Undo restores one removal. Restart asks before clearing your moves.

If your saved record cannot be read, play can continue temporarily. Resetting an unreadable save requires confirmation because it replaces the old record. A read failure offers a reload so the old record can be checked before anything writes over it.
